There is nothing like the scent of pumpkin to begin the fall season. While we all enjoy our pumpkin lattes and pumpkin pies, there are many other ways to incorporate this seasonal ingredient into your daily routine. For a fun fall treat, try adding pumpkin to your beauty arsenal. Beyond smelling and tasting great, it's packed full of vitamins, minerals and enzymes to help protect and heal skin.

Scrub

As the weather starts to cool down, our skin reacts accordingly. We have left over dead skin cells and possible skin damage from all of the summer sun. A body scrub is the perfect way to clean, exfoliate and moisturize your skin. A scrub evens everything out and leaves you clean and glowing like new. Luckily, pumpkin contains enzymes that actually dissolve dead skin cells.

To start, you will need any air-tight glass jar. Add in ½ cup brown sugar and ½ cup of pumpkin puree. For moisture, add in ¾ cup of olive oil. Just like your favorite treats, you can't forget a teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice! If you like, you can add some cinnamon or nutmeg for an extra scent. Vitamin E can be added if you need a touch of extra moisture for the winter. Stir it all together and you've got a decadent, guilt-free treat for your skin made from natural ingredients.

Lotion

Lotion is essential throughout the year, but it is especially important in the fall as the temperatures start to drop. We need an extra layer of protection against the wind and harsh weather to come. A simple four-ingredient lotion will be your go-to all season long.

Start with ½ cup of pumpkin puree and ½ cup of shea butter. Use a mixer to ensure that there are no lumps. Once you reach a consistent texture, add in ¼ cup of coconut oil. For fragrance, add in a pinch of cinnamon. Continue mixing until the lotion is almost whipped and fluffy. You will smell great and feel amazing! You can keep it in any sort of closed container.

Mask

With all of the properties pumpkin offers, you can really build the best mask for your skin type. In addition to helping with acne, pumpkin can help you combat aging, dull skin and sun spots. By keeping the base ingredients of pumpkin puree and egg in your household, you can take advantage of this superfood at any time.

For a mask, start by mixing one egg and ½ cup of pumpkin puree. If you have oily skin, add in 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar. For dry skin, add in 1 Tablespoon of honey. For combination skin, add in ¼ cup of Greek yogurt. Once the ingredients are mixed, apply to your face and let it sit for 15-20 minutes. Clear away the mask with a warm washcloth and finish with a moisturizer.

Finding the best beauty remedies is as easy as looking in your pantry. With these homemade recipes, you get the best of pumpkin without all of the calories! After your first use, you will be tempted to use these homemade products year-round.
